Alice wasn't sure and for a moment or two she considered going after him to give him her thanks in person, but then, rethinking, she hesitated.
If Domenico had wanted her thanks, he would have stayed around to hear it. Instead he had deposited her case on the floor and gone. He would be back downstairs with her parents again now and he probably wouldn't want her to come rushing down and interrupting things. Besides, the tiredness that she had claimed as an excuse to go to her room had now become a reality.
